Poverty eradication projects on track
02 Apr 2013
Hukuntsi Sub-district Council chairperson, Mr Milton Moseru has applauded poverty eradication beneficiaries in the area for their dedication.
In an interview recently, Mr Moseru said eight bakery projects in various settlements were already supplying schools with bread adding that there was a monthly income of close to P19 000 from the sales which varied according to schools' establishment.
He stated that about 14 sewing projects beneficiaries were undergoing training at Jwaneng Technical College.
He said it was worth noting that seven beneficiaries who were on attachment for saloon projects had completed their training and looking for operation structures whilst materials procurement was on-going.He said the backyard gardens and alternative packages in remote areas settlements continued to empower remote area communities to build productive and sustainable livelihoods.
“All the poverty eradication programmes will continue to be rolled out and the intention is for every beneficiary to be empowered one way or the other, especially those in remote area settlements where traces of abject poverty are visible,” he said.
He further stated that 65 Ipelegeng projects were to be implemented in the sub-district for the 2012/2013 Ipelegeng programme and highlighted that 45 projects had been completed while 28 were still outstanding.
However, Mr Moseru said the sub-district was still failing to reach its Ipelegeng employment quota of 1 657 per month despite the progress achieved so far.
He attributed failure to reach quota to the fact that some Ipelegeng employees declined enrolment on conditions that wages were low and decried hot weather conditions especially in open spaces and some abandoned the programme for greener pastures. He noted that shortage of skilled man power on Ipelegeng maintenance projects had a negative impact on the timely completion of such projects. ENDS
