Dipz releases second album
02 Apr 2013
At the time of his first album titled Sedi Laaka, Diphetogo Kgongwana warned other gospel singers that his was a master piece. “I am going to give them a run for their money,” he had said of his debut album in an interview.
Born 22 years ago in Mmathethe in the Southern District, Dipz, as he is affectionately known by his legion of followers, said Sedi Laaka catapulted him to stardom in 2011.
The album was recorded in Lobatse at Inner Spheric Studios. That was two years ago, and true to his words, the young artist is back with another offering titled Nkgolole Morena. “Last time I was an amateur in the industry, but today I have matured big time, so everybody must watch out because I am here to shake up the world of gospel music,” once again he dared other artists.
Nkgolole Morena consisted of eight tracks. “You can’t ignore them as they have been perfected over a long period of time,” Dipz said, adding that “500 copies must move weekly.”
Baked and dished out from Van-Mos Studios in Mogoditshane, the youngster said his second album was be better than the first one. The first album, though he had praised it as a masterpiece at the time, could only raise enough money to recover the input costs.
Without revealing too much, Dipz said his was a long walk to stardom, particularly because there was not enough financial support coming his way.
A member of the Zion Christian Church (ZCC) in Mompane, he said his upward mobility had also been affected by growing up in a rural area where resources were limited: “Otherwise I would be a household name by now,” he adds.
“I use my music to send a massage to people and it is the only tool I feel comfortable with to use to talk to people,” he says, and adds; “I too want to make a mark in the gospel genre.”
