Backlog eradication programme in progress

Selebi Phikwe mayor, Mr Amogelang Mojuta, says the primary school backlog eradication programme is in progress. 

Addressing the Selebi Phikwe Town Council full council meeting on May 20, Mr Mojuta said the backlog eradication project, which entailed construction of teachers houses at a tune of P15.9 million is 88 per cent complete.

He said works within the buildings envelop were at the finishing stage whilst the most outstanding works are on external works. Mr Mojuta said the contract for the project has been extended to end of July this year.

He said the construction of two toilet blocks each comprising eight cubicles at about P894 000 at Boitshoko and Boitumelo Primary Schools respectively has been completed within budget.

The mayor also indicated that the ministry has approved funds for another primary school backlog eradication project for financial year 2015/2016.

He said the proposed projects comprise 13 teachers’ houses and two blocks of toilets at Segomotso Primary School.

He explained that the tenders for construction of the teachers’ houses and two blocks of toilet have been advertised and closing on 12th and 27th May respectively adding that the construction project of the houses and toilet blocks is expected to commence mid-June and early July.

“It is worth noting that the above development will play a major role in the improvement of our education system as shortage of teachers’ accommodation will be reduced. 

Further the construction of pupils toilets will results in improvement on pupils’ hygiene, “he said adding that the move will subsequently improve on results. ENDS
