Locals artists live up to expectations

Local afro-jazz artists Shanti Lo of O ya kae fame and Ghetto’s finest Ndingo Johwa did not disappoint the audience that thronged the beMobile Ke Ya Rona festival over the Easter holidays.
As they warmed up the stage with awesome performances, they proved to be almost on the same level with their South African counter part, jazz maestro and composer, Jonas Gwangwa.
The festival, held at the magnificent Majestic Five hotel, was held to celebrate beMobile’s fifth anniversary and provide a platform for the local networks customers to experience the latest from local and regional artists.
The South African jazz guru set the stage ablaze and serenaded his audience with beautiful renditions from his old albums in particular Batsumi and Kgomo.
Gwangwa also thrilled his audience with a breathtaking performance of his Diphororo which he dedicated to all families whose siblings never returned home after fleeing their countries during the apartheid era.
It may have happened decades ago, but the events of the apartheid era are still vivid in Gwangwa’s mind, and his face was filled with sadness whilst performing a solemn Diphororo instrumental piece.
The show combined jazz and oldies to cater for the elderly audience who thronged the place in high numbers.
The line-up included DJs Douglas Mosadi, SK, Peter T, Tshipidy, Sala and Sid. ENDS
