The Vice President Dr Ponatshego Kedikilwe says it is imperative for the nation to unite to better the lives of the less privileged in the society.

Dr Kedikilwe was speaking at a ceremony to hand over 10 houses in Serowe North East Constituency at Tidimalo Ward on Thursday.

The Vice President said was important to always remember the principles of botho, volunteerism and compassion which are embedded in our principles as a nation.

He said the hand over showed that there was visionary leadership in the constituency and was also a demonstration of compassion for the less fortunate in the community.

“Through community service we are able to give back to our various communities and make the world a better place to be for us all,” he said.

He further said giving back to the community ensured shared responsibilities, shared opportunities and shared sense of community.

Dr Kedikilwe also noted that the spirit of volunteerism had moulded Botswana into being an inspiration to other nations and as such should be upheld.

He pointed out that the good gesture shown by donors was part of the poverty eradication initiative which focussed on moving Batswana out of abject poverty and implored others to emulate them.

For his part, the Member of Parliament for Serowe North East, Mr Dikgakgamatso Seretse thanked the donors for giving a helping hand especially during hard times of recession.

He advised beneficiaries not to sell the houses at the expense of their future generations and warned some well-off members of the community to desist from cheating the beneficiaries.

The donation was through concerted efforts of Universal Builders Botswana and its subsidiary body, Duma FM which donated a radio to each homestead, and Grit-tech Solar systems which electrified all the ten houses. ENDS
