Womens super league reaches peak
06 May 2015
With only two fixtures remaining in the women’s super league, a fierce battle is expected at Mma-Masire ground on Saturday when log leaders Township Rollers come face-to face with unpredictable UB Kicks.
UB Kicks will be beaming with confidence after beating Mexican Girls last week end, and all eyes will be on them to see if they have what it takes to halt Popa’s unbeaten run. On one hand, Township Rollers might prove to be a hard nut to crack, since they had a record to maintain, they want to finish the league with a clean sheet.
Popa out of the 19 games they have played they are yet to lose a single game, and their coach Gaolethoo ‘Ronaldo” Nkutlwisang told BOPA that she was aware that they are one leg to be crowned the 2014/2015 champions, therefore there was no time for complacency or concentration lapse from her team.
She said she was confident that at the end they will clinch the championship, given the pool of experienced players that she has at Rollers. “My players are very determined to go all out, and again onus is on individual players to prove their mettle, and mental strength as we are about to wrap the league” she said
Nonetheless, UB Kicks coach, Alex Basimanebotlhe promised to leave no stone unturned when they meet Rollers on Saturday. He said he was cognizant that they would be playing a strong opponent, adding that they have studied their play and the last time they met, Rollers managed to force a 1-0 victory through was a penalty.
Basimanebotlhe further said, his team was not in a respectable position, therefore they would want to collect maximum points in all their remaining games. “The game is going to be interesting, we know Township Rollers is a scoring team, but on the other hand if you can look at our team, we do not concede a lot of goal, I have a formidable defence, which I am confident that is capable of denying Rollers yo scoring on the day” he said.
In other games to be played on Saturday a battle of titans is expected at Bosele Primary School, when second placed, Double Action meet Kanye Swallows. Just like Double Action, Swallows has a lot of character, and fighting spirit they have over time proved that despite the fact that they are on position six they are not push-overs in the field, and should Double Action judge the Kanye based by their log standing they will be severely punished.
Mexican Girls will play against Big Sisters, behind Gaborone West Junior School, relegation bound Vicomates and Makufa will tussle it out at Mogoditshane Junior School, Prison will travel to Ramotswa for a date with South East Girls.
Newlook Primary School will host Meat Girls and Untouchable, on Sunday only one game would be played at SSG, where Untouchable will have a date with Township Rollers and all games starts at 1500 hrs. Ends
