Artistes unite against AIDS

28 Mar 2013

Over 30 artistes converged at the Alliance Française on March 27 in a determined mission to take war to HIV and AIDS through song, dance and poetry.

March has been designated as the Month of Youth against HIV and AIDS and the activity was part of the commemorations that were held countrywide since the beginning of the month.

While all the artistes rendered beautiful pieces, the audience was left asking for more after Keith and Neo delivered a brilliant poem spiced up with folklore music. While Keith held the audience in a trance with his poetic skills, Neo kept their senses awake with a beautiful rendition of Geroge Swabi’s Ba ga Mmangwato ba ga Mabiletsa.

Another poet, Milton aka Damil, recited a poem in four different languages; Setswana, Kalanga, Ndebele and English. In his poem he encouraged people to unite in the fight gainst HIV and AIDS until they attained victory.

Nametso Pontchi was the first female to draw the audience’s attention. She rendered an emotional piece in which she remembered those who succumbed to AIDS. Her poem also talked of the plight of rape victims, orphans and stigma attached to HIV and AIDS. With a little tremor to her voice and an abundance of tears, she mesmerised the audience as her message reached home.

Other artistes who participated included Lubinda who recited a French poem, Prophet Busta who performed Reggae songs, Tshegofatso Gaobakwe and OB. ENDS
