Makgalemele urges farmers to be research oriented
26 Apr 2015
Assistant Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Mr Phillip Makgalemele has advised Sandveld Ranchers Association members to research on any government policy that could be used to help their cause.
Speaking during the association’s field day on Saturday, Mr Makgalemele challenged farmers to research and exploits various trade agreements that they could benefit from.
He informed the farmers that some policies were deliberately biased towards helping farmers and he encouraged them to take advantage of such going forward. He said a well-researched and informed farmers association will be abreast with current issues and thus remained relevant.
Mr Makgalemele argued that a well-informed association was capable of lobbying with strength. However, the assistant minister promised to channel farmers’ plea to the Office of the President for appreciation.
Notwithstanding, Mr Makgalemele advised the farmers to heed the messages put before them by various experts as that could also bolster their understanding of the beef farming business.
“You have set yourselves an ambitious yet achievable theme which is not an event but a process by which we will gauge your progress,” said Mr Makgalemele in reference to the day’s theme: Quality breeding, the gateway to successful farming in semi-arid climatic conditions. ENDS
