Kwerepe wants Sehithwa to be sub-district council
24 Apr 2015
The Member of Parliament for Ngami, Mr Thato Kwerepe says he will keep on advocating for establishment of a sub-district council in Sehithwa.
Addressing a kgotla meeting in Sehithwa on April 22, MP Kwerepe said the village was the centre for Ngamiland, since it was a transit point from Maun to Ghanzi, Shakawe and Namibia.
MP Kwerepe said Sehithwa needed fully fledged offices like those in Maun to avoid having officers come from Maun to provide services. Furthermore, MP Kwerepe said he also advocated for a senior secondary school for Sehithwa.
Currently, he noted that the children in Sehithwa went to Maun, Shakawe, Ghanzi or Nata senior secondary schools, which he said were far and costly for some needy parents.
He, therefore, advised residents of Sehithwa to register their place of region whenever required by officials since he said their low numbers worked against the possibility of developments coming to their area.
On some developments, MP Kwerepe said he has taken the issue of lack of a laboratory at Sehithwa clinic to the minister of health who has promised to look into the matter.
The MP said lack of a laboratory for blood tests and X-ray services disadvantaged patients at Sehithwa a great deal since everything was done in Maun. Mr Kwerepe further informed Sehithwa residents that there was hope for Legothwana settlement to be uplifted to a village status.
In their comments, some residents expressed that it was high time that Sehithwa be turned into a sub-district, and decried that developments sidelined their village.
The area councilor, Mr Maitiro Segosebe underscored the need for a senior secondary school. He also said he was thankful for Legothwana to become a village. ENDS
