Botswana Premier League (BPL) and their sponsor, be,Mobile, have announced a new category that will authenticate the power of the off-the field unsung hero of the beautiful game; the fan.

A press release from BPL stated that fans now had an opportunity to cast their vote for the ‘be PLAYER of the Season’ using a Short Message Service (SMS).  The release said fans stood a chance of winning P20 000 if their chosen player received the most SMS votes and wins the award. 

The player will also be awarded a prize money of P20 000 at the annual ceremony, which will also recognize players and officials for their contribution to football.

“We are extremely excited to have public participation in the selection of this award. There is huge excitement around the end of the season gala event and by participating in promotion, the general public has the opportunity to feel included when the event is broadcast live on Botswana Television,” said Pilot Yane, BTCL general manager marketing.

Bennett Mamelodi, Botswana Premier League CEO, was equally upbeat.“The league is on constant upward trajectory. We are ever-improving and together with our faithful sponsor we are looking forward to football fans participation in identifying the player that shone the most for them.”

One lucky fan drawn at random, who voted for the winning player, will also have the honour of handing out the trophy and cheque to their hero and officially name the ‘be PLAYER of the Season.’

Fans simply have to SMS the ‘name and surname’ of their best be PLAYER of the Season to 13131. ENDS
