Football teams in Kanye will this weekend slug it out in a four-team tournament in honour of the slain Sejelo police officer, Constable Focus Isaiah of Tonota.
Isaiah died earlier this year in the line of duty when police officers engaged in a shoot out with suspected armed robbers in Kanye.
The tournament will feature Tsokotsa FC which comprises Kanye and Sejelo police officers; Kanye Seventh Day Adventist Hospital FC; Southern District Council FC and Ngwaketse FC.
The fundraising committee chairperson, Phillip Kedise explained in an interview that the proceeds would be channeled towards building a house for Isaiah’s two children in Senyawe where he had a plot.
He said every player would part with a P50 match fee and an additional P30 for a lunch pack with a view to augment the funds. The games will start at 8am at Matsaakgang Primary School grounds near Seepapitso Senior Secondary School.
He said the tournament was also aimed at celebrating Isaiah’s life. “We want to appreciate the fact that he put his life on the line for many and there is no better way to show that than through soccer because we used to play it together,” Kedise said.
He urged residents of Kanye to come in good numbers to support the noble cause. ENDS
