Chobe Game Lodge has been awarded Best Property in Africa for Resource Management 2015.
A press release from the lodge stated that the awards took place at the inaugural African Responsible Tourism Awards at the World Travel Market Africa in Cape Town on April 16.
It said an independent judging panel of writers, tourism professionals and responsible tourism leaders selected the game lodge as the winner out of five finalists in the category.
The judges were most impressed by the lodge’s commitment to reforming the entire waste management from biogas production from the kitchen waste to the use of the first electric-game viewing fleet in Africa together with the ultimate aim of reducing dependency on the grid.
“This award is most appropriately deserved by all the women and men of our entire company who have worked with such passion and dedication to achieve this recognition in Responsible Tourism,” the statement said.
Chobe Game lodge has a vision to be the most responsible tourism operation in the world. “Ever since the first glass brick we made from our on-site recycling plant in 2004 to the moment we welcomed guests on the first CO2 emission free electric vehicle in 2014,” it stated.
The lodge thanked Botswana Tourism Organisation for actively encouraging the industry to get on board with their ecotourism grading scheme.
This award meant that the lodge will be automatically in line for the World Responsible Tourism awards taking place in London in November this year. Chobe Game lodge broke new ground on ecotourism by launching the first ever electric fleet comprising an electric game drive car and electric boat in November last year. Ends
