Madinda Ndlovu dumps Rollers

21 Apr 2015

Township Rollers coach, Madinda 'Khathazile' Ndlovu has resigned.

Ndlovu confirmed today (April 21), that he had stepped down as Rollers coach, but said he was not in a position to divulge more information before meeting with Rollers management.

A statement from the club management confirmed that the coach tendered his resignation on April 20 and they had agreed to release him with immediate effect.

It further said the management had assigned assistant coach, Mogomotsi Mpote, the full responsibility of coaching the team until end of the season. According to the statement, Rollers also released Zachariah Mudzazi whose contract was to end on May 31, 2015

Ndlovu's resignation came after Rollers failed to lift the Mascom Top 8 trophy for the second consecutive time.

Last year, Rollers lost to BDF XI in the Top 8 final on penalties, and on Saturday (April 18), Gaborone United increased Ndlovu’s woes by winning the coveted trophy. Some soccer pundits viewed this as the main reason for Ndlovu’s unceremonious exit at the Gaborone West side.

Before joining Rollers, Ndlovu had helped Mochudi Centre Chiefs to win the be Mobile Premier League title back-to-back, in 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 seasons. And, in his first season with Popa, he won the championship and was also crowned coach of the season.

He took over at Rollers after the team finished the previous season on position eight with 40 points, and his arrival then was seen as what the doctor had prescribed for Mapalastina.

The former Zimbabwe international has also coached Nico United and Motlakase Power Dynamos.  Ends
