Police VI on fire

21 Apr 2015

Police VI coach, Tshepo Iketeng, is relishing every moment of the Mascom Volleyball league following a string of wins.

They have won all of their three games 3-0. Having missed the championship by a whisker in the past two seasons, Iketeng said this time around they were determined to fight until the end.

In an interview after the third round of games at Molepolole IHS Indoor Courts on April 18, Iketeng said the reason for the consistency was the lessons from the past two seasons.

“During the past two seasons, we had the tendency of winning the first set and then allowing our opponents to come back into the game. This time around, we have agreed with my players that we are going to win each game by three sets to nil, and so far so good,” he said.

Iketeng said even though they have not yet played against the powerhouses in the league such as BDF VI, they have seen them play and is confident that they can win against them.
“So far the only teams that I have not seen are Diphatsa and Prisons,” he said.

Iketeng also attributed his team’s failure to win the league in the past seasons to fatigue, as they used the same players throughout the campaign.

“This led to players having fatigue as the season closed to an end, and that is where our opponents usually took advantage to beat us to the title. This time around we rotate our players and avoid relying on the same players throughout,” he said.

Although he could not commit himself to winning the league, Iketeng said he will do all it takes to take the championship, which he said will be an achievement especially as he is leading the team as a head coach for the first time. He has been plying as an assistant coach to Tsimako Ngwanaotsile.

During the weekend games in Molepolole, Police VI won 3-0 against Mafolofolo and Kalavango. In other men’s games, Desert Kings suffered a 0-3 defeat against Mafolofolo before succumbing 1-3 to Kalavango.

In the women’s games still in Molepolole, Mafolofolo defeated Dynamites 3-0 before Kutlwano thrashed BDF VI by a similar score line. The Mascom volleyball games will continue this weekend at various places across the country. Ends
