Scuba divers, this morning, retrieved the body of a girl who drowned in Notwane River near Makgophane ward in Mochudi on Saturday (April 18).
According to Assistant Superintendent Kabelo Bome of Mochudi police, the incident occurred when the girl, aged between 11 and 12 years, and her friend attempted to cross the river using a log.
He said it seemed the two girls slipped and fell into the water. One was saved by people who were nearby, but they failed to save the other who drowned. Ass Supt Bome said scuba divers were called in to assist, but only managed to retrieve the body from the river this morning.
He said in another incident in Boseja ward, an elderly man, who is believed to be in his mid or late 80s, was remanded in custody after he allegedly beat his wife with a walking stick.
Assistant Supt Bome said the incident happened on April 18 night when an argument broke out between the two leading to a fight. He said the seriously injured woman was hospitalised at Deborah Retief Memorial hospital in Mochudi.
