BITRI starts ICT Programme

The first group of the Botswana Institute of Technology Research and Innovation (BITRI) Youth Associate ICT Programme called ICTAssociate@BITRI reported on Tuesday April 7.

A media release from BITRI stated that the programme, which aimed at developing youth entrepreneurial skills  comprised of 20 interns to be placed at Kanye.  The programme will target a total of 60 participants with the remaining 40 to be placed at Palapye on the dates to be announced.

The release states that the competency based programme where young Batswana will be involved in BITRI research programmes over a two- year period will be hands-on experimental teaching techniques and interaction participation to prepare participants for planning, starting and operating a small business in the ICT sector.

The release said programme aimed to develop competencies in ICT as well as qualities leading to self-esteem, critical thinking and problem solving skills needed for an effective management of a set up business.

It states that emphasis will be placed on innovation, market research, financing business opportunity identification, goal setting, business planning, presentation skills, time management and day to day activities of owning or operating a business.

The release states that BITRI objective is to develop, adopt and enhance technologies for the benefit of Batswana in order to improve lives and provide equal opportunities. ENDS
