Police VI can win league- coach

16 Apr 2015

Police VI men’s team head coach, Tshepo Iketleng, says his side is capable of winning the Mascom Volleyball League title this season.

The team’s performances have been rising steadily in the last two seasons, which has given Iketleng cause for optimism that they can beat traditional powerhouses BDF VI, Kutlwano and Diphatsa to snatch the title.

In the 2013 season, the policemen surprised many by posting a credible third place finish. They then went even closer last year when they fought for the title until the last day of the season before getting piped to second position by eventual champions Kutlwano.

Kutlwano finished the season with 64 points. Police ended on 62 points after winning 20 matches and suffering just two defeats. The fact that they finished above tough teams like BDF VI and Diphatsa was ample testimony of their progress.

Iketleng says they have made clinching the coveted title their primary target for this season. “Winning the league is our main objective this year. We have the experience now after finishing in second position last season. We have to concentrate in our matches now,” Iketleng said.

He also said competing at the Confederation of African Volleyball Board (CAVB) Zone Six Club Championships in December has helped them to improve further.
He said he is going to need his team to show a lot of dedication and determination in order to win the league.

He said they were still working on the tactical part of our game, adding he is happy with the way they started the season. Police opened the season in bright manner by drubbing Mag Stimela 3-0 last in Molepolole last weekend.

Police has an opportunity to maintain their place at the top of the table when they clash with Kalavango in their second match at Molepolole Institute of Health Sciences hall April 18. Iketleng expects his team to win this encounter comfortably. “I am expecting a 3-0 win,” he said confidently.

The match is expected to kick off at 3pm. Afterwards Police will take on Mafolofolo at 7pm. In other matches in Molepolole, Mafolofolo will face Desert Kings, while Kalavango will also play against Desert Kings.

There will also be men’s league matches at the Serowe Institute of Health Sciences hall with the big clash between Diphatsa and Spiking Stars at 8pm. Tanian will start the proceedings against Prisons VI at 10am, while Mag Stimela will face Spiking Stars at 12pm.

In the women’s league defending champions Kutlwano will play against BDF VI in Molepolole at 11am, while Dynamites will face Mafolofolo at 9am. Ends
