Salary increment includes dikgosi cllrs
13 Apr 2015
Salaries and allowances for dikgosi, dikgosana and councillors are reviewed as and when salaries for public officers are done, Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso, has told Parliament.
She said the last upward review of salaries for dikgosi and dikgosana was done in April 2008. Ms Tshireletso said over the years, when salary adjustments were made for public officers, dikgosi, dikgosana and councillors were included and the recent six percent adjustment will also affect them.
She said there are no plans to equate sitting allowances with that of Parliament as their conditions of service are not the same.
Gaborone North MP, Mr Haskins Nkaigwa had asked her what has been done to address low salaries and allowances of Chiefs, Headmen and Councillors and if there are plans to equate their sitting allowance with that of Parliament. ENDS
