Stock taking delays stationary distribution

12 Apr 2015

Francistown schools were not provided with stationary on time for 2015.

Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Frans Van Der Westhuizen, said in Parliament that this was due to a major exercise of stock taking and reconciliation in schools in an effort to establish appropriate stationary quantities to be procured.

He said the exercise delayed the tendering process as tenders were only awarded in December 2014. The assistant minister also noted that companies that were awarded tenders for stationary supply had started delivering to Francistown City Council (FCC).

Mr Van Der Westhuizen said for the 2014 calendar year, most schools were supplied with stationary in good time. Further, he noted his ministry through the FCC had decided to have a running contract for supply of stationery for the whole of 2015 to ensure that there would be enough supplies for the 2016 calendar year.

MP for Francistown South, Mr Wynter Mmolotsi had asked why for the second year running, primary schools in Francistown had not received stationary in good time. Ends
