Teams seek playoffs berth

09 Apr 2015

A mighty battle will take place in the Debswana First Division South League on Saturday (April 11) as three clubs vie for a spot in the promotional playoffs for a place in the be Mobile Premier League.

Jwaneng Galaxy have already taken the automatic promotion spot after a brace by Mmusa Ohilwe helped them to wrap the league championships by beating Black Peril 2-0 three weeks ago.

In the first match of the playoffs fight, former premier league campaigners Uniao Flamingo Santos and Mogoditshane Fighters will face each in a must win last match of the season at the Sharps Ground in Old Naledi.

Santos, currently sitting in second place on the log-standings with 38 points, must win the match to ensure that they keep their position and book a playoffs berth.

Fighters on the other hand are currently on fourth place with 36 points, and needs victory to snatch away the runners-up spot from Santos.
The second match will see third placed Black Forest take on Tsholofelo Rolling Boys at the SSG Ground looking to win and hoping that results from the other match would be favourable for them.

In the event Santos lose to Fighters with a slim margin, Forest, which has 36 points and is above Fighters because of a better goal difference, will seal a spot in the playoffs with victory over Rolling Boys. Forest will also finish in second place if they beat Rolling Boys and the Santos- Fighters match ends in a draw. Santos would be favourites for a place in the playoffs because they have been the most consistent of the three teams in the last few weeks.

They showed their seriousness to bounce back to the top flight a few weeks ago by beating the star-studded Galaxy in Jwaneng. In their last match, Kgosietsile Mampori’s charges saw off Prisons XI 2-0.

Fighters, who are led by the combination of former Zebras head-coach Stanley Tshosane and striker Mpho Mabogo have also done well, but stumbled in the last few matches when they lost to Modipane United and got held to a goalless draw by Lesirane City.

In other matches, relegated Ghanzi Terrors which has failed to win a single match so far, will conclude their season by hosting another relegated team, Black Peril in Ghanzi.

Lesirane City will welcome Sharps Electrical at Lesirane Ground, while Modipane United faces Killer Giants in Modipane. The last match will be between Jwaneng Galaxy and Prisons XI at the Galaxy Stadium. ENDS
