Constitution Amendment Bill not yet law
01 Apr 2015
The Constitution Amendment Bill (Bill No. 18 of 2013) was passed by Parliament on March 27, 2014, but has not been assented to by the President, and it therefore remains a bill and not law.
This was said by the Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Mr Eric Molale, in response to a question in Parliament from Francistown South MP, Mr Wynter Mmolotsi.
"It will be recalled that the Constitution Amendment Bill (Bill No. 18 of 2013) was not drafted in the Attorney General’s Chambers and was further published in the Gazette without seeking advice from the Attorney General,” he said.
The provisions of the bill, the minister said, carried serious legal implications on other provisions of the Constitution that also required
simultaneous amendment.
Mr Mmolotsi had asked Minister Molale to state progress made on the Constitutional (Amendment) Bill 2013 (Bill No. 18 of 2013) that was passed by Parliament on March 27, 2014. ENDS
