Inclusiveness key for FDI
31 Mar 2015
Deputy permanent secretary in the Office of the President, Mr Mogomotsi Kaboeamodimo says Botswana’s inclusiveness is to open doors for foreign direct investment
, which has opened global markets for ease of trade and convenience of both global traders and consumers.
Speaking on behalf of the Vice President, Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi, at the launch of Botswana Government Workers Union (BOGOWU) and GetBucks - a cash loan company, Mr Kaboeamodimo said the culture of Botswana was one of respect, inclusiveness, coming together and achieving the desired goals whatever the obstacle.
He said Botswana watched international trends with interest, SACU agreements as a region, and therefore government policies were designed to ensure that industry players from all over the world could find comfort in their shores because of enriching policies, strong structures of corporate governance, transparency and zero tolerance to corruption as an enabler to make business with Botswana.
The deputy permanent secretary said the country’s human resource base was fully equipped and trainable to whatever competencies investors
are looking for, adding that sparkling diamonds have defined Botswana’s being in the global market.
He said the relationship between GetBucks and BOGOWU came at a time when there was a liquidity crunch in the market and said their profile showed that they tap onto the marginalised market which is not catered for by the mainstream banking products.
Mr Kaboeamodimo said their industry is a strong alternative to traditional means of finance
for households and small enterprises. He said the skills they bring to Batswana are commendable as they strive to move towards a knowledge based economy.
Mr Kaboeamodimo said it is pleasing to learn that their product, come with financial education in order to empower their customers in decision making as IMF has cautioned the market players about the need to address household debt and promote debt for investment
and saving.
For his part, GetBucks managing director, Mr Marthin de Kock said GetBucks’ ultimate goal is to become a household name in the financial industry in Botswana by making use of technology in servicing their clients in a fast, easy and convenient way. ENDS
