Education ministry addresses accommodation shortage

31 Mar 2015

Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development, Mr Moiseraele Goya, says his ministry is aware of the current challenge of inadequate staff housing facing, not only in Boteti East constituency, but the country as a whole.

Mr Goya said in a bid to ensure that every teacher had a roof above his/her head, available housing was being offered on a sharing basis. He noted that married teachers were at times forced to share accommodation.

The assistant minister said where resources permitted, his ministry had always ensured that married couples were provided with accommodation on a non-sharing basis to accord them the respect and privacy they deserved.

Mr Goya, nevertheless, said subject to availability of funding, his ministry would continue to construct and purchase additional housing to alleviate the situation.

The MP for Boteti East, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe had asked the minister if he was aware of shortage of accommodation for teachers in Boteti East. He also wanted to know what would be done to rectify the anomaly where married teachers were at times forced to share accommodation. ENDS
