Minister refutes allegations Kgathi
31 Mar 2015
Minister of Defence, Justice and Security, Mr Shaw Kgathi, says it is not true that lodges at Chobe Enclave in Chobe District are guarded by police officers.
He said due to frequent crime incidents that occurred in the Chobe tourist area that often times included invasions by armed criminals, the Botswana Police Service deployed regular and routine patrols to counter these acts depending on the crime trends.
Mr Kgathi said the deployments of such patrols were for the benefit of any vulnerable business in the area, irrespective of the business focus.
He was responding to a question from MP for Francistown South, Mr Wynter Mmolotsi, who had asked why the lodges at the Chobe Enclave were guarded by the Botswana Police Service when they were private businesses.
He also wanted to know how many police officers were posted to these lodges per night and which police stations they were drawn from. ENDS
