Companies donate to centre

Three companies, Unitrans, Scania and Kwa Nokeng Oil have donated different goods to the Francistown Centre for the Deaf.
The items included a 150 litres geezer, Plasma Television, stationery, dust-bins and 80 school bags.
Speaking during the handing over of the donation, Unitrans safety health environment Quality (SHEQ) manager, Mr Michael Zano said as a business group, they found it fit not only to donate but also to present road safety messages to the learners.
Mr Zano said Unitrans was a transporting company that was supplied by Scania, therefore they decided to join hands and donate something to learners that would bring joy to them and also uplift the quality of life at the school.
He said Unitrans owed its success to the relentless support of the community and pledged to extend a helping hand as a responsible corporate company to serve the handicapped, orphans and the underprivileged in Botswana, through launching initiatives, which would reach out to the needy and the deserving.
Furthermore, Mr Zano said it was their endeavour to support and serve their local community through philanthropic activities and some of their current corporate social responsibility initiatives.
For his part, Unitrans Driver trainer, Mr Moses Mamela said they take road safety seriously in their organisation, adding that safety was driven from top management to bottom grounds staff.
Mr Mamela said when it comes to safety they do not compromise because all drivers are highly trained on defensive driving to make sure they drive defensively in public roads to prevent accidents.
“In Botswana, we are experiencing the fatal accidents involving school children crossing the road or even walking along the road,’’ he added. He said they were fully convinced that to mitigate that situation, they should train kids on how to cross the road safely without putting their lives in danger.
The Ministry of Education and Skills Development (MoESD) principal education officer (PEO) in the Guidance Department of Special Support Services in the North East region, Ms Oikameng Kelaeng appreciated Unitrans`s social responsibility. ENDS
