Land allocation remains challenge in Kgatleng

30 Mar 2015

Unavailability of plots in Kgatleng is said to be a challenge as people wait for long to be allocated plots.

Speaking at the on-going full council meeting in Mochudi recently, the council chairperson, Mr Mpho Morolong said in November  last year , the land board unfroze applications for residential plots in the district.

“The first days of receipt of application saw an unprecedented number of applicants flooding sub-land boards to submit applications,” he said.To date, he said an estimated total of 160 applications had been received while those received at Oodi Sub-land Board were estimated at 112 000.

However, he said this financial year, Kgatleng Land Board had planned to allocate 1 030 plots but so far, only 648 plots had been allocated, noting that Mmathudukwane had so far allocated 318 plots, Artesia 242, Mochudi 37 and Oodi 51.

He urged councillors to call upon government to consider introducing a quota system for land allocation to address these challenges. Concerning land registration, the council chairperson said the land board was continuing with the implementation of the systematic land registration project on improvement of land administration procedures capacity and systems (LAPCAS).

The national land registration project for the financial year 2014/15, he said, was being undertaken in Mochudi adding that 11 906 plots had been surveyed out of an estimated 13 000 plots.

He said the land board in conjunction with village leadership had started the process to display maps in Mochudi village while the public is expected to ascertain their land rights accordingly. ENDS
