Mmusa Ohilwe’s brace has ensured promotion of Jwaneng Galaxy to the be Mobile Premier League. Galaxy defeated Black Peril 2-0 in Molepolole Sports Complex on March 28.
The Jwaneng-based club showed intention of gaining promotion, given that in the Debswana First Division South, they tormented their opponents. Out of the 21 games they played, the team managed to win 13, lost three, drew five thus accumulating 44 points.
The club chairperson, Njabulo Gilika said they would join the elite league to compete. “First division is the toughest league in this country. We have actually been closely monitoring teams like Sankoyo, Satmos and Orapa United who gained promotion and did well,” he said.
Gilika said they had benchmarked from those teams, adding that they were going to prepare their team to compete in the premier league and ultimately avoid relegation. This time, he said, they were going to sustain their position in the league, therefore teams should expect a stiff competition from the diamond mining town team.
For his part, goalkeeper Bophelo Kealeboga said his team was prepared to play and compete in the elite league, adding his side had experienced players who were capable of matching their counter parts in the league.
Kealeboga, who was recently roped in the senior national team, Zebras, said majority of their players were from the premier league, therefore they would not suffer stage fright.
“Mind you, we have national team players in our team, like Boitumelo Mafoko and like I said we have experienced players like Toy Moroka, Flo Kgetholetsile, Mmusa Ohilwe and the rest of our team is very committed,” he said.
Coach, Oris Radipotsane said he was happy that they finally attained their season’s mission, adding they had long envisaged promotion to the elite league. He said their mission was to win all their away games, saying he was happy that they managed to achieve their mission.
“Although we knew we would be playing our deciding game against Black Peril, at some point we heard that they won’t turn up for the game, that did not deter us, we continued to prepare for the game, because we knew we were going to win the league today,” he said.
Radipotsane further said they still had a remaining game against Prison X1 at home, adding they were not going to take the encounter lightly but instead they would use it as a preparation for the next season in the premier league.
During the game, Black Peril came determined to deny Galaxy a victory given that for the first 15 minutes of the game, they enjoyed ball possession in the process denying Galaxy room to maneuver.
However, as the game progressed, Black Peril goalminder, Lesego Bosekeng rose to the occasion by denying the opponents golden scoring opportunities. Jwaneng Galaxy fought very hard to at least score a goal before half time, but alas that was not the case since they either ballooned the balls or Bosekeng saved their attempts.
The game went into a recess with the score board reading 0-0 and after the break; Jwaneng side came with a good plan which paid dividends on the 55th minute when Mmusa Ohilwe converted a brilliant goal which was a rebound.
Although Black Peril continued with their fighting spirit, Galaxy seemed to be too good for them as on the 80th minute, Ohilwe put the final nail in their coffin, when he score the second and last goal of the game.
Peril coach Nelson Olebile said he was not happy with the decision taken on the eleventh hour to move the game from Tlokweng VDC ground to Molepolole Sports Complex since they prepared the game on their home ground.
He said it was difficult to psyche the players to adopt the change of venue. Nevertheless, in terms of play, he said they played well in the first stanza and his players showed no respect for their opponents till the second half when Galaxy secured their two important goals.
In other games played on Saturday, Sharps Electrical won 3-0 against Modipane United, Uniao Flamingo Santos beat Prison X1 2-0, Killer Giants and Rolling Boys played to a one all draw, Black Forest taught Ghanzi Terrors some football techniques by clobbering them 6-1, while the game between Mogoditshane Fighters and Lesirane was postponed due to water logged pitch.
