Not all subjects have senior teachers

29 Mar 2015

All subjects have positions of senior teacher except physical education and music, says the Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development, Mr Moiseraele Goya.

Responding to a question in Parliament on March 25, Mr Goya said at junior secondary schools not all subjects had senior teacher positions due to the lower work load and the fewer number of teachers per a particular subject.

He said subjects like physical education and music fall under the jurisdiction of senior teacher generals as the junior schools have streams of 12 where there are usually three teachers per subject and this will mean that creating a post for senior teacher will mean he/she will be supervising one or two teachers.

MP for Boteti East, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe had asked the minister whether he does not find the need to create positions for senior teachers for each subject to help them focus on each subject and improve subject management for junior and senior secondary schools. ENDS
