No plans to review retirement packages

25 Mar 2015

There are no plans to review the retirement package for civil servants and parastatal workers, since there are instruments available that assist government and the parastatal organisations to determine appropriate percentage salary to be reserved for pensions of employees.

Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Mr Eric Molale said this when answering a question in Parliament on March 24. He also said, “for now, there is no need to conduct a study to find out if pensioners are not living in absolute poverty after retirement.”

Minister Molale further said, “instead, I feel and believe that more vigorous counselling and guidance is required to help the retirees to plan for both their retirement and a more beneficial use of the money that they receive at the time of retirement.”

MP for Francistown West, Mr Ignatius Moswaane had asked the minister whether government would consider reviewing the retirement packages for civil servants and parastatals workers when they retire more especially early retirements when forced to retire and normal retirements. Mr Mmolotsi also wanted to know if the minister would conduct a study to find out if the pensioners were not living in absolute poverty after retirement. ENDS
