HRDC conducts career clinic

The Human Resource Development Council (HRDC) will launch the first in a series of Botswana Tertiary Education Career clinics that would be held from March 23rd-24.
Speaking in at a press briefing in Gaborone on March 20, the director of policy planning (HRDC), Ms Margaret Baiketsi, said the career clinic would go a long way in helping students make decisions on their career based on their interests, abilities and passion, while also considering current and future career opportunities.
Ms Baiketsi invited all the youth who just completed the Form Five saying they would learn about the world of work across different sectors, and take positive steps to achieve their aspirations.
She pointed out that career clinics are aimed at preparing students for the world of work by equipping them with knowledge to stay relevant in the global economy and lead purposeful lives.
“A number of secondary school graduates do not have a clue about their career ambitions” she stated, adding that career clinic programmes would help them make good education and career decisions and positively impact their academic performance and well-being.
She therefore encouraged young people to come and learn including those who have not acquired obtained good marks.
She said it is very important for the youth to make informed decisions and pick programmes that are in their hearts and relevant meeting their points, rather than depending on their peers, or parental pressure.
She highlighted that it is very important for one to have self-understanding, of their strength and, weakness, their natural talent and abilities to be able to choose follow a career path of choice.
For his part the Chief Executive Officer for HRDC Dr Patrick Molutsi said the main aim of the BTEC career clinic is to bring key stakeholders together being career guidance teachers, representatives of the youth, academics, government policy makers, business entrepreneurs, and captains of industry from all parts of Botswana and united States of America, Germany and United Kingdom.
