Limkokwing University has adopted Poloka Pre-School in Shoshong constituency.
To set the ball rolling, the university donated P50 000.00 to the pre-school. Speaking during the ceremony recently, University vice president-corporate & industry relations, Mr Mosomo Kgotla stated that the funds are for pre-school development.
Mr Kgotla said they will be informed as to how the funds will be utilised after meeting with the school leadership. However, he noted that they have already realized that the classroom is too small to accommodate 40 children. In addition, he said there is lack of toys and games for children.
He was pleased that his organization has established cordial relationship with Poloka primary school saying that it shows that they do not only touch the lives of urban dwellers. Further he told the attendants that his university doors are wide open for Poloka primary school to tour the school at their convenience.
Poloka primary school head, Mr Bakani Madani express gratitude towards this gesture, however he said due to the growing of the school over time they is a need for more classes. Due to lack of shortage of classrooms, the school is compelled to use store room as classroom.
Also, Mr Madani said lack of Information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure is a challenge saying lack of electricity in the school worsens the problem because it hinders them from seeking assistance from business community to donate ICT equipment such as computers to them.
Meanwhile, the deputy school head Ms Losolwane Raseduelo stated in an interview that their school was not part of the preschool piloting project but because they have realized that new pupils (standard ones) take some time to adapt and grasp the content they are being taught, they decided to start their own.
Since the introduction of pre-school she said, children from pre-school to standard one are confident and grasp content with easy, subsequently the results have now improved. ENDS
