Premier league heats up

19 Mar 2015

Log leaders, Mochudi Centre Chiefs will be seeking to cement their premier league log leadership when they tussle Nico United on Friday evening (March 20) at Molepolole Sports Complex.

Chiefs defeated the struggling Letlapeng 3-1 over the weekend in a repeat of the match that was previously halted by hunder storms.

Magosi had a sloppy game against relegation threatened Letlapeng but eventually emerged victorious, courtesy of Ocean Mpofu, Lemponye Tshireletso and Keaketswe Mara Moloi’s goals, which separated the two teams apart from Tshegofatso Chimuku’s solitary goal for Letlapeng.

With determination and motivation, Mike Sithole’s boys would be eyeing to grab all three points in this encounter and open the gap further. Nico should be cautious of Chief’s top man Lemponye Tshireletso who has been banging goals recently and eyeing the golden boot.

Magosi have 50 points from 22 games. However, Chiefs should despise Nico at their own peril. The Selebi Phikwe outfit would come fighting like a wounded lion especially that Gaborone United have been booted out of the Mascom Top 8 Cup.

Nico's focus would be now switched to the premier league with a mandate to at least finish in the top 8. Nico sit in position 13 with 20 points from 22 games and would hope to redeem themselves in the final games of the season to at least reach the top eight.

Another clash will be between Orapa United and Gaborone United that will be played on Saturday (March 20) at Itekeng Stadium at 6pm. Orapa did not play well in their last encounter against struggling FC Satmos even though they claimed three points winning 2nil.

The Northern ambassadors have been performing well recently and would like to put pressure on chiefs and go as far as clinching the title. On the other hand, Moyagoleele will enter the game after a morale boosting win after beating Nico by an aggregate of three goals and booked themselves a place into the top 8 final.

The game did not live up to expectations and Rahman Gumbo would have to revisit his drawing and rectify their problems if they want to improve their position in the Log.

Meanwhile, another battle is expected to be seen when relegation faced Letlapeng host Township Rollers on Sunday at Molepolole Sports Complex at 15:45.

Letlapeng which succumbed to Chiefs over the weekend will be looking to improve their position at the bottom of the table, trying to close gap between themselves and Ecco City Greens as well as BR Highlanders.

The team is likely to cause an upset when they tussle with Mapalastina and would like to pocket three points hindering Popa the opportunity to be in a better place in the contest for the premier league title.

On the other hand, Mapalastina would like to close the gap between themselves, Orapa United and Mochudi as the league is still open to the three. Mapalastina have returned to their winning ways after claiming the scalp of BDF XI by 4-2 aggregate to reach the final of top 8.

They will come motivated in this game and eyeing to grab three points. The Blues mentor Madinda Ndlovu should not consider this game a walk over if he wants to restore his pride and reputation and defend the title.

Meanwhile on Saturday March 21, BDF X1 will host BR Highlanders at SSKB, Motlakase Power Dynamos will face FC Satmos at Serowe Sports Complex, Notwane will take Sankoyo Bush Bucks at Maun, BMC will battle it out with Police X1 at new Lobatse Stadium, all the games starts at 1600 hrs, whereas Eco City Greens and Extension Gunners game has been moved to Serowe Sports Complex at 1900 hrs.
