Siamisang urges councillors to support youth
24 Mar 2013
Deputy permanent secretary in the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture, Mr Jefferson Siamisang has appealed to Central District councillors to mainstream youth issues in all their activities.
Addressing a council meeting recently, Mr Siamisang said through his ministry, government continued to place youth development at the centre of national development agenda hence several initiatives geared towards helping them.
He noted that councillors understood youth issues better and said they were better placed to help what he termed 'a fragile population'.
Thus he appealed to councillors to include the youth in council policies, programmes and projects, and always ensure that youth featured in all their meetings at their respective wards.
He emphasised that youth be given priority with the procurement policy as a form of affirmative action to address lack of market for their business. “It is my wish and expectation that youth issues will be taken on board, in fact DDPs without provisions for young people should not be allowed to pass in the council,” he said.
