Makgalemele attends conference on risk reduction

The Assistant Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Mr Philip Makgalemele, is in Sendai, Japan for the third United Nations World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction.

A press release from the Ministry of State President, the assistant minister was accompanied by the director of the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO), Mr Moagi Baleseng and other senior government officials.

It further stated that the conference was a UN organised international forum where legislators, practitioners, developmental organisations, academia and civil society orgnisations converge to discuss disaster risk reduction issues at global level.

The discussions and deliberations would centre on plenary meetings that will include ministerial roundtables and multi-stakeholder partnership dialogues, states the release. It further said the assistant minister would present a paper under the theme: Governing Disaster Risk: Overcoming Challenges- Botswana Hyogo Framework for Action (HFA)country report 2005-2015.

The ministerial roundtable, said the release would also provide an opportunity for interactive and focused discussions on key priorities and actions in support of the post 2015-framework for disaster risk reduction. The conference kicked-off on March 14 and ends on March 18, 2015. ENDS
