BotswanaPost avoids payment delays

17 Mar 2015

The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development says it is aware that there are instances where BotswanaPost has not been able to facilitate payments of Ipelegeng workers and Old Age Pensioners on time.

Answering a question in Parliament, Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Frans Van Der Westhuizen, said the situation arose in instances where either the beneficiaries details could have been captured incorrectly, non-renewal of Old Age Pensioners life certificates or various social issues such as bereavements and ill health that would normally prevent the beneficiaries from collecting their wages from the post office on time.

He said the districts in partnership with BotswanaPost had made plans to avoid such delays and a paying officer had been assigned to oversee the BotswanaPost payments as well as the individual Postal Managers who had been charged with the responsibility of ensuring that the implementation of this contract goes on smoothly.

Nata/Gweta MP, Mr Polson Majaga had asked the minister if he was aware that Botswana Postal Services was not able to facilitate the payment of Ipelegeng workers and Old Age Pensioners on time, if so what will be dine to ensure that the situation is rectified. ENDS
