WUC addresses water loss concern

17 Mar 2015

The Minister of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources, Mr Kitso Mokaila, has told Parliament that 35 per cent of water loses are experienced in the South District Council with most of them in Ramotswa and Taung villages.

He attributed this to the aged network infrastructure that was overdue for rehabilitation. He said Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) wass addressing this water loss concern by employing strategies of which the Ramotswa office had dedicated a response crew to address reported pipe bursts and leakages.

Other strategies, he further said, were that pressure management strategies were employed to balance off high pressure zones especially on the aged network of the village.

He said water loss project was commissioned in 2013/14 to minimise water loses adding that the project entails identification of leakage prone areas and relaying long sections of problematic pipelines such as in Sepitswane, Lesetlhana, Taung and Magopane.

Mr Mokaila said the project was still ongoing stating that in the long term the ministry intends to undertake major village rehabilitation in Ramotswa subject to availability of funding. Ramotswa MP, Mr Samuel Rantuana had asked how much water was lost due to pipe leakages in South East District and what WUC intends to do to improve the situation of leakages and pipes.
