Police address accommodation shortage
16 Mar 2015
Botswana Police Service is acquiring rented houses from Botswana Housing Corporation to address shortage of accommodation for officers stationed at Broadhurst Police Station.
The Minister of Defence, Justice and Security, Mr Shaw Kgathi informed Parliament that in addition to this, more houses were also being acquired from the private market.
Mr Kgathi said as a long term intervention to the problem, his ministry was at an advanced stage of tendering for construction of 130 housing units under Block 10 police housing project which would commence in the 2015/16 financial year.
Concerning high crime rates in areas under Broadhurst police, Mr Kgathi said the police would continue to intensify their policing efforts against crime incidents, including motivation of community policing initiatives. Gaborone Central MP, Dr Phenyo Butale had asked if there were any plans to address acute shortage of accommodation for officers at the station. ENDS
