Francistown landfill burns

12 Mar 2015

A dark cloud that appeared in Francistown this morning (March 12) was due to a blaze of smoke after the second city’s landfill caught fire.

According to a press release from the Francistown City Council (FCC) public relations office, the fire started last night and at the time of going to press, it was not certain as to what might have caused the fire.

The release further stated that the council’s fire department was still investigating cause of the fire and they were trying their best to put the fire under control. Furthermore, the council apologised to those affected by the smoke.

The release said the services at the landfill would be disrupted as it was temporarily closed and customers were advised to wait for the situation to normalise. In addition, the release warned the public against any illegal dumping of waste as that would impact negatively on the environment. ENDS
