Local govt promises to fix street lights
12 Mar 2015
Non-functioning solar or streetlight generally creates crime spots, Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso said in Parliament.
Responding to a question she said the ministry, through district councils, would ensure that solar streetlights were maintained regularly to avoid them becoming non-functional for extended period of time.
Ramotswa MP, Mr Samuel Rantuana had asked if she was aware that the solar lights at Otse, Mogobane and Boatle junctions were not functioning and as a result the stops had become top crime spots.
Ms Tshireletso said she was aware that solar lights at Otse and Boatle junctions were not functioning but they were repaired in February this year. She said those at Mogobane and Boatle junctions were still not functioning and were planned to be repaired by end of March. ENDS
