Lack of funds cost Khwai school clinic
12 Mar 2015
Financial constraints caused the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD) to fail to construct a school and clinic in Khwai, after the place was recognised as a settlement in 2008.
Local government and rural development assistant minister, Mr Frans Van Der Westhuizen told Parliament that when the National Development Plan (NDP10) commenced in 2009, the two projects were not included due to budgetary constraints.
“Thus, there are no plans to construct these facilities in the current plan period,” the assistant minister said. He said his ministry and the North West District Council have resorted to accommodating children from Khwai, who attend primary school at Kareng, in RADs hostels.
Maun East, MP Mr Konstantinos Markus had wanted to know when Khwai settlement would be provided with a school and clinic. He also asked the assistant minister if he is aware that small children from the settlement attend primary school some 210 kilometres away in Kareng.
