Giants Sharps battle ends in stalemate

Killer Giants assistant coach, Silver Matsake, has expressed disappointment after his team played to a two-all draw with Old Naledi-based Sharps Electrical at Siga grounds on March 7 during a First Division League game.
Having narrowly beaten Sharps 1-0 at their own backyard during the first round match, Giants had hoped to finish off Sharps in Ramotswa during the return leg. “I am a bit disappointed because we had expected a win in today’s match but that is football for you,” he said after watching his side surrendering their lead during the dying minutes of the game.
However, he said he intended to keep his team in the first division league, adding that his players needed to have a winning mentality going forward. On one hand, Sharps coach, Wilfred Mahaja said that they had also aimed to get three points from Giants and blamed the draw on his defense which he said committed unnecessary mistakes.
He said although they failed to beat Giants, the team generally played according to instructions and gave a brave fight against their opponents despite costly mistakes. “We thank the boys for the equalizer when we were three minutes to fulltime. They gave a brave fighting spirit,” said Mahaja.
Sharps were the first to score in the first half through Ofentse Chututu who drove the ball for a few metres before taking a straight shot at Giants’ goalkeeper. However, on the 38th minute of the first half, Moeteledi Ditshweu answered for Giants with their first goal.
The teams went for break with one goal each. And after the break, Ditshweu netted another one for ‘Sebatana’ as Killer Giants is known, to give the home side a lead. From there the home side made several attempts at Sharp’s goal posts to no avail as their shots were off target.
However, their wastefulness upfront could not stop the visitors to snatch an equalizer with only three minutes left before the final whistle. ENDS
