Jwaneng Mine constructs house for family
10 Mar 2015
Jwaneng Mine recently conducted a ground breaking ceremony to build a house worth over P400 000 for the Matthys family in Jwaneng.
The family’s house was gutted by fire in 2012 and they have since been living in a tent. Speaking at the ground breaking ceremony, Jwaneng mine general manager, Mr Albert Milton commended the Jwaneng Cycling Club for successfully hosting last year’s GM race, whose proceeds would be used to build the house.
He said their intervention was in line with the President’s Housing Appeal. He added that construction of the house would take about three months to be complete. Thus, he urged all stakeholders to play a part so that the project could be delivered on time.
“My greatest appreciation also goes to the Jwaneng Town Council for partnering with the mine technical team to make this project possible,” he said. Furthermore, Mr Milton noted that his company was prepared to spend over P3 million this year for the social upliftment of the Jwaneng community and surrounding areas.
“We will be making inroads into different villages around Jwaneng to see how we can help improve the lives of residents,” he said. On behalf of the family, Ms Irene Matthys applauded the mine for coming to their rescue in their time of need.
Ms Matthys said ever since their house got burnt down, their living conditions had been poor as they had to share the single tent with their parents and children. ENDS
