Princess Marina re-opens postnatal ward

10 Mar 2015

Princess Marina Hospital (PMH) has re-opened the postnatal ward, which was closed in December 2014 following collapse of the ceiling.

A press release from the hospital stated that the ward was handed back to the hospital management by the facility management company, Stobech, last week. A thorough cleaning consistent with a hospital setup, the release said, was immediately started and completed on March 3 and the ward was occupied the following day.

It further said Princess Marina Hospital management decided to maintain the whole ceiling in the ward to avoid future incidences of that nature. Princess Marina Hospital was built in 1965 and the affected ward was last renovated in 1994.

“Meanwhile, preventative maintenance is still ongoing at the hospital. Mechanical works that are currently ongoing are fixing of air conditioners, boilers, chillers, fire pumps, as well as booster pumps for domestic water supply,” added the release.

The boilers, the release said, were used for steam production, which was used for cleaning; medical equipment, laundry, kitchen and heaters among others while chillers are for air conditioners.

It also stated that with all these currently ongoing, the PMH would experience disruptions to some services, adding that the hospital has put measures in place like water bowsing in case there is water shortage and activation of standby generators in case of power outage.  ENDS
