05 Mar 2015

The Ministry of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources has not directed Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) to disconnect water at public institutions, Minister Kitso Mokaila has said.

Answering a question Parliament on Wednesday, March 4 from Selebi Phikwe West MP, Mr Dithapelo Keorapetse, he however said where some establishments that offer essential services such as hospitals and schools have bills, their parent ministry headquarters is disconnected to compel them to pay.

This move, he said, enables WUC to collect the much needed revenue for their operations, adding that bill payment by all water users is pivotal to the corporation’s existence.

MP Keorapetse had asked the minister whether government has directed the WUC not to disconnect water at public institutions such as schools and if so to state if there are some institutions which were disconnected following the instruction.

He also wanted the minister to state the extent to which the corporation has complied with the aforesaid instruction. ENDS
