Students from various primary schools in Maun were treated to an exciting event at a Road Safety family fun day recently at the Village Church.
The event, organised by the Department of Road Transport and Safety (DRTS) in Ngamiland was meant to create road safety awareness amongst children in an edutainment way.
Speaking at the event, the DRTS station manager, Ms Ntshadi Mosie noted that Maun as a tourist hub was faced with escalating road traffic accidents that had injured and claimed many lives.
Ms Mosie said it was against that background that her department saw the need to host a road safety family fun day to disseminate road safety messages to parents and children.
The Ngamiland Assistant District Commissioner Mr Mogomotsi Madome said road safety education to children was significant as it would lead to future responsible citizens.
The activities for the day included a simulation game by the Red Cross, Medical Rescue International (MRI) and the North West District Council (NWDC) Fire department, which emphasized the importance of proper handling of a an accident victim to prevent further injuries.
Children were also treated to bicycle traffic lessons, road safety competitions, while motorists had a chance to test their vehicles for road worthiness. ENDS
