Lobatse Lions’ club recently conducted a health camp at Lobatse Secondary School offering free sight screening, blood pressure and blood sugar tests to students at the school.

Speaking at the health camp Lobatse Lion’s club optometrist Mr Olebole Kehemetswe said their aim was to educate and sensitise the students about good health and the need to use facilities offered by hospitals and clinics as well as to offer help to those that need further assistance.

“It has come to our attention that most of the kids have eye problem and most parents cannot afford to buy them spectacles and this affect their sight from a tender age until maturity,” said Mr Kehemetswe.

Furthermore, Mr Kehemetswe said poor performance in schools was attributed to poor sight and the club pledged to help the affected student for the benefit of good results.

As part of their social responsibility, he noted that they donated to Moshupa students and Chichi students.

He said school 249 students were tested and 149 were normal, 66 were referred to clinics and hospital while 34 students were to be given spectacles.

For her part, Ms Thanuja Panickae said the tested students were identified by their teachers and explained that testing the students at young age make it easier to detect sight problem. ENDS
