Maniacs Nhabe win Clash of Titans8232

Smash Maniacs Ladies and Nhabe Table Tennis Club men have won the 2015 Clash of the Titans tournament team events after impressive victories in their respective categories. 

The second edition of the tournament, hosted at Botswana College of Agriculture by Gaborone based Smash Maniacs Table Tennis Club, and sponsored by Kam Bricks Holdings with P10 000, saw eleven teams compete in the men’s section, while six contested the ladies section.

The men’s section was divided into four groups and the Smash Maniacs A team and BIUST advanced to the quarterfinals from Group 1, while BDF A and Smash Maniacs B progressed out of Group 2. Nhabe A team and Jwaneng progressed from Group 3 and Dithubaruba and Nhabe B team progressed from Group 4.

The Nhabe A team, comprising Kudzanani Motswagole, McDonald Qalinge and Kennete Santudu, set up a final clash against BDF after brushing aside defending champions, Smash Maniacs A 3-1 in the quarterfinals, and Smash Maniacs B 3-1 in the semifinals.

BDF on the other side handed BIUST a 3-0 thrashing in the quarterfinal before defeating Jwaneng 3-1 in the semifinal.

Nhabe then sealed a 3-1 victory over BDF in the final to claim the trophy, gold medals and P1 000 first-prize.

In the ladies section, hosts Smash Maniacs A claimed a 3-1 victory over Nhabe A to win their own tournament. They also won a trophy, gold medals and P1 000.

The team, comprising Boitshwarelo Butale, Matshidiso Osi, and Lovie Chilisa , reached the final after drubbing their Bs 3-0 in the semifinal.

Nhabe A also saw off their Bs by a 3-0 score to reach the final.
Runners-up in both categories settled for silver medals and P650, while semifinalists were consoled with bronze medals.

Eighteen year old South Africa international, Terrence Mathole defeated Bonolo Mabote in the men’s singles finals.

AnotherSouth African, Zodwa Maphanga defeated Tshepiso Rebatenne 3-0 in a one sided ladies final. Winners in both categories got trophies, gold medals and P750.

Bakang Maloka won the boys Under-18 trophy by defeating Tlotlo Kgosimore 3-1, while Oratile Kedisaletses edged Gorata Ramagapu 3-2 in a closely contested girls final.

Smash Maniacs public relations officer, Tefo Motsumi said they were happy with how the tournament went. “The level of competition was very high and it was intensified even further by the presence of several international players from South Africa,” Motsumi said. ENDS
