Clarity delays directive implementation
03 Mar 2015
Minister of Health, Ms Dorcus Makgato has told Parliament that she is aware of the Directive of 2008, which stipulates that nurses with post basic qualifications be remunerated at appropriate notches.
She said the implementation was delayed by lack of clarity on the actual definition of ‘appropriate notching.’
She said there has been extensive consultation with the Directorate of Public Service Management (DPSM) on the issue, including even benchmarking with neighbouring countries.
She said though it has taken long, the ministry has now made a specific proposal to DPSM for consideration and that the ministry was expecting a response as soon as possible, to enable implementation in the coming financial year.
Ms Makgato was responding to question from Francistown East MP, Mr Buti Billy who had asked the minister if she is aware of the Post basic Directive of 2008, which stipulates that nurses with post basic qualifications be remunerated at appropriate notches.
He also wanted to know what was delaying the implementation since it was issued six years ago. ENDS
