Liberty Life pledges

Liberty Life Botswana has donated P50 000 to the Tshwaragano Adventure Trust in Gaborone on Monday, March 2.
The donation was in a bid to help raise funds for two Batswana men who will be embarking on a charitable cause through a fitness programme, to climb to the base of Mountain Everest, which is known as the highest mountain in the world. Also, all proceeds of charity will be donated to the Cancer Association of Botswana (CAB).
Speaking at the donation, Ms Lulu Rasebotsa, the managing director of Liberty Life Botswana, said they chose to sponsor Tswaragano Adventure Trust as its works of charity are aligned with their business which is assurance of life.
She said as Liberty Life they encourage activities that would save guard against life threatening diseases such as cancer, and risks associated with it.
Ms Rasebotsa added that they partner with organisation or events that do not discriminate, citing cancer as a deadly disease that anyone can get regardless of gender, age and race.
“As a result, as Liberty Life this is what we stand for, save guarding our clients and preserving Batswana’s lives,” she said.
Speaking on behalf of Tswaragano Adventure Trust, and being one of the climbers, Mr Moraki Mokgosana, stated that their mandate was to raise funds through fitness programs.
“We are an organisation of 10 people and we have embarked on several fitness challenges, including several marathons across the country, Up and down Kgale Hill and recently in 2012 we climbed Mountain Kilimanjaro in one week.”
He stated that in 2012, they donated P250 000 to CAB, and also P70 000 to a teacher, Mr Keamogetse Seboaga who had to fix his wheelchair.
Mr Mokgosana said that the journey to climb up Mount Everest would begin later this month on March 20, and they would go only up to base level, approximately 5400 meters above sea level.
Although, it was quite a shorter distance than Mount Kilimanjaro, he said that it would take them two weeks to complete the journey because of different climate changes and weather.
He said they were excited and anxious to sensitise Batswana and promote cancer awareness and also raise funds for different charities through fitness.
For his part, the managing director of Brand Botswana, Mr Gaorekwe Gaorekwe, commended the bravery of the two men saying they were extraordinary and would be among the first Batswana to climb Mount Everest.
Mr Gaorekwe said as Brand Botswana they were involved in every activity to promote the country, and such an activity would make the country visible internationally.
He also handed the men the brand Botswana identity and the national flag. ENDS
