Minister acknowledges late payments
02 Mar 2015
There have been some delays in Tirelo Setshaba participants’ payments throughout the country including Selebi Phikwe.
Minister of Labour and Home Affairs, Mr Edwin Batshu, said in Parliament on behalf of the Minister of Youth, Sport and Culture, that the delay in payments of allowances was often caused by late confirmation by host organisations.
He said given the high mobility of the youth, the ministry had to confirm availability of the participants at their work places every month to avoid possible payment of ghost participants.
Furthermore, he said the ministry was engaged in a rigorous stakeholder management programme to improve the payment system and expedite the confirmations. Selebi Phikwe MP, Mr Dithapelo Keorapetse, had asked if the minister was aware that Tirelo Sechaba participants were seldom paid on time in Selebi Phikwe. ENDS
